Discover the Literary World of Nashville: Book Clubs and Reading Groups

Are you looking for a way to explore the literary world in Nashville, Tennessee? Look no further! There are plenty of book clubs and reading groups in the city that offer a great opportunity to meet new friends and participate in stimulating conversations. From the Tennessee Book Club to the Killer Thrillers Book Club, there is something for everyone. The Tennessee Book Club is a collaboration between the Tennessee State Museum and the Next Chapter Society Book Club. Every month, they host an informal gathering with beer at the Black Abbey Brewing Company.

The genres range from science fiction to adult memoirs to historical novels. If you're interested in reading about murder and revenge, then the Killer Thrillers Book Club is perfect for you. Every first Thursday of the month, head to the Nashville Public Library at noon to explore classic and contemporary stories of murder and mayhem. Kathy Schultenover is the coordinator of the Parnassus Book Club and the Classics Club.

She has been leading book groups for more than forty years, with great success. Kathy created the Davis-Kidd bookstore clubs in Nashville and was director of the Davis-Kidd Book Club, the Davis-Kidd Classics Club and the Davis-Kidd Women's Book Club for seventeen years. At Parnassus Books, members of Kathy's book clubs can enjoy lively debates between a varying number of participants of all ages. Sometimes a book inspires a completely different conversation and the discussion about the book gets completely off track.

Parnassus also has a registry of book clubs, which allows local book groups to order and purchase their club's monthly selection at a discount. The East Side outpost, The Bookshop, houses four book clubs in the next door coffee shop, Hanna Bee Coffee. At Phat Bites, in Donelson, on the second Tuesday of every month, you can come and chat about some of the best current stories, courtesy of the Bite Size Book Club. The Gloss Book Club meets once a month to discuss a variety of literary genres, connecting women with shared literary interests.
